Essentially, a CAT (CAD Audio transmission) is a Windows computer running JRiver and outputting PCM via a dedicated USB board, but in reality, it is a digital transmission. CAT won HiFi + magazine's Editor's Choice Award in 2015 and has been on the market for several years. Now, in April 2020, CAT has again won the HiFi + Editor's Choice Award.
(1) An outboard power supply manufactured by Teddy Pardo consists of two 12V DC linear power sources with low output impedance and high voltage swing rates: one for the CPU and the other for four voltage regulators. These are Scott designed low noise devices that power SSD (solid state drive), USB boards (5V and 3.3V), and CD-ROM drives.
(2) Although it's a Windows 8.1 machine, it's a very streamlined machine with a lot of tweaking. It has standard USB ports for memory sticks or drives, as well as HDMI, DVI and VGA connections for TVS or monitors.
(3) Record using dBpoweramp, which USES the 5.2ALT version of JPlay over JRiver.
(4) You can control the cat with a monitor and keyboard, but a more elegant and ergonomic solution is to use the JRemote application on a tablet; You can also access the desktop using remote desktop applications.
